Emily Tew is the Secretary of Board for Agape Mobility Ethiopia. She also leads registration, organizes fundraising dinners, and works with operations. She has been involved in this ministry since 2022. A woman of many talents, Emily has served AME through volunteering at wheelchair workshops. “We started out super, super small,” Emily stated. “We would be worried that it would just be me and Tim some days, but it’s grown over time, and God has provided even when we didn’t see it coming.”

Emily got involved in Agape Mobility Ethiopia through her friend’s mom, who met Saba at a Disabilities Expo in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Emily and her husband, Tim, went along to a fundraising dinner where Saba expressed a need for someone who could teach people how to repair wheelchairs. Tim happened to be a wheelchair repair tech and so, he and Emily volunteered to help. Emily said she was struck by Saba’s passion for the people in Ethiopia she serves. “That’s very important to me as somebody with a disability, to see somebody’s potential from their starting point and allow them to grow, not just giving them mobility, but also the hope that God has to offer.”
Emily talked about her story and how she feels close to this ministry saying, “I think that this [Agape Mobility Ethiopia] is part of the way that Jesus uses my disability to bring glory to God, and not just mine, but everyone that receives these chairs.” She also spoke about John 9, the story of a blind man who Jesus healed. Jesus told the people that the blind man was blind because it brought glory to God, which has inspired Emily serving in AME.
She told us that the message she wants to portray through Agape Mobility Ethiopia is: “We see you where you’re at, and we love you, and we want to see you be able to grow.”
